Overview

Horse-racing is Hong Kong's favourite sport and nowhere offers the thrilling buzz of a race quite like this city. From September to June/July on most Wednesday evenings and weekends, the sound of hooves pounding down the stretch can be heard at the two glittering racetracks: Happy Valley on Hong Kong Island and Sha Tin in the New Territories.

The season’s highlights are the prestigious international horse races such as the Hong Kong Derby, the Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the Hong Kong International Races, when world-class horses and jockeys fly in to compete for the world's richest purses. Hong Kong offers the best of both worlds, experience the thrill of the international horse races and enjoy the sights and sounds of a city where East meets West, where ancient customs and modern living merge into one.
